As reported yesterday, there are more large yachts on display at the London International Boat Show than ever before, despite fears of a global recession. But to give you the other side of the story, many of the world’s richest have indeed lost fortunes and are now selling their super-yachts.
One of them is Ron Perelman, who once was the richest man of the world. He had an estimated net worth of $12 billion, most of which he made when taking cosmetics company Revlon private in 1985. However, the billionaire has decided to sell off his luxurious super yacht Ultima III.
The 190ft yacht is sold through yacht broker Edmiston with a price close to $70 million. The large boat can accommodate 16 guests, it has several staterooms and a Jacuzzi. In addition, it boasts a stunning sun deck and some other luxury items.
Edmiston is also the broker of some other luxury yachts, including the Irvine Laidlaw’s Lady Christine (named after his wife). Laidlaw has put the 182ft yacht on the market at €45 million.
Also for sale are the Maltese Falcon, owned by venture capitalist Tom Perkins. It is one of the world’s largest privately-owned sailing yachts with a length of 290ft. The sale price is a cool €115m. Then you can also buy the Enterprice V (167ft, $22.5m), Excellence III and a bunch of others.
