Common Mistakes When Purchasing a Yacht

1. Not Doing Any Research
Probably the most common mistake a prospective yacht owner will make, is not doing sufficient research on the vessel before purchasing. It’s imperative that you find out as much information about your preferred yacht as possible, including maintenance and mooring costs, number of crew needed to man the vessel etc. Consult a yacht buyer guide, and make sure a thorough inspection is carried out. All of this will help you make an informed decision before purchasing your dream yacht.

2. Buying On Impulse
Remember that this is a yacht, a purchase likely to cost you several millions of dollars or euros. This isn’t a pair of Italian shoes or a fashionable handbag that you can get away with buying on a whim. A yacht is an expensive investment, and so should be treated as such. It’s important not to rush into any purchase. Once you have done all your research, and are fairly confident of the vessel you want, take some additional time to think things through, speak to other yacht consultants and get as many opinions on the vessel as possible. The purchasing process should be a calm and calculated procedure.

3. Not Thinking About What The Yacht Will Be Used For
Another common mistake buy yacht buyers is not fully considering what the vessel will be used for. Is it wise to purchase a yacht needing a 10-man crew, when you are really just needing it for recreational sailing during the Summer months. Or purchasing a smaller yacht, when you plan on regularly entertaining a large number of guests. What you plan on doing with your yacht should help you determine the type of vessel you will need.

4. Not Making Use Of An Experienced Yacht Broker
It’s always best to play safe and make use of an experienced yacht broker when purchasing a vessel. Making use of their expertise will ensure that all the necessary documentation has been presented to you by the seller, such as manuals, service histories, Declaration of Conformity paperwork, as well as pre-sale surveys. Not making use of a broker greatly increases the chances of you getting badly burned during the buying process, so take heed.

5. Not Budgeting In The Additional Costs
It’s also important to remember that buying a yacht is not just a once-off purchase. There are various other additional costs to consider, including maintenance, repairs and mooring fees. With new yachts, additional fees such as spare parts, tools and additional sails are often not added to the base cost, so be wary of this. Older yachts will usually need regular maintenance and repairs after about 3 years of sailing. It’s also important to remember that yacht can quickly lose their resale value, and this should also be considered by buyers who may have been hoping to sell the vessel in a few years for a tidy profit.

Rupert Murdoch’s “Rosehearty” Sailing Yacht for Rent

Rupert Murdoch's yacht Rosehearty

Media mogul Rupert Murdoch is cashing in during the recession not only by renting out his New York home Rosehearty, but he is also making available for rent his beautiful sailing yacht of the same name.

The yacht is beautifully designed both on the outside and on the inside by Ron Holland, Perini Navi and Christian Liagre. It is 184 ft. in length, has five suites for up to ten guests and it is coming with tons of luxury toys and amenities, of course, including wireless Internet and several plasma TVs.

The Rosehearty sailing yacht can be yours for just €220,000 per week.

Everest Gigayacht to be huge

Rumors of a huge superyacht being built in Fort Lauderdale, Florida have been around for a while. Now, new details have surfaced and they’re nothing short of staggering: It has been reported that this new yacht, which is named Everest and designed by Donald Starkey, will be 656 ft. in length! You read that right. It would not only make it the world’s largest yacht, but it would also surpass Roman Abramovich’s new megayacht Eclipse by 100 ft.

Yachts of this size undoubtedly are superyachts, but they’re much bigger than about all other yachts currently on the market, so a new category will have to be introduced for them: Gigayachts.

We don’t have any photos of the yacht’s construction and we don’t know anything about its future owner, but we will keep you updated as soon as more information emerge.

Superyacht: Ocean Breeze

Ocean Breeze (1981)

The Ocean Breeze has a rather unique and colorful history, being one of eight magnificent yachts commissioned for the former ruler of Iraq, Saddam Hussein. Completed in 1981 and christened “Qaddisat Saddam”, this 269 foot boat has a breathtaking exterior designed by Helsingoer Vaerft.

Ocean Breeze, renamed after the fall of President Hussein, has a lavish interior on an order rarely seen. Her master cabin is a study in luxury with a canopied bed, ornate ceiling tiles, a light and airy atmosphere helped by generous windows and a richly appointed master bath. Twenty-eight people can fit comfortably in the bedroom without spilling over into the sitting area. This suite is the epitome of luxury with its soft carpeting, tastefully treated walls and elaborate ceiling tiles.

Ocean Breeze also has nine double cabins and four twin cabins that, while not on the scale of the master suite, are far superior to the finest room in a five star hotel. Every bathroom on the boat is equipped with gold fixtures and most cabins have Jacuzzi tubs and sauna rooms. The boat is elegantly decorated throughout its interior with gold, silver, marble and fine mahogany wood.

The main salon, as large as a small ballroom, is comfortably furnished with flat screen televisions and modern furniture. The wall to wall windows afford priceless views wherever the Ocean Breeze sails. Since safety was a prime concern, every window on the yacht is made of bullet proof glass.

Guests can swim in one of the large pools, lounge on the deck, see a first run movie in the spacious theater or go to the game room and play ping pong, pool or other games of skill.

This magnificent yacht is also equipped with a Mosque, a secret escape passage, a rocket launching system and a miniature submarine. The Iraqi government is currently offering Ocean Breeze for sale for the price of $34,450,000.
